De Nederlandse tekst.....

Mijn ervaring door de jaren heen is dat ik vaak vrij droevig word van de kwaliteit van Nederlandse en Engelse teksten in onze branche. Zelf ben ik sinds enige jaren betrokken bij een Engelstalig vakblad waarvoor ik teksten schrijf en vertaal; inmiddels heb ik ontdekt dat er een behoorlijke behoefte is aan mensen met een technische achtergrond uit het vakgebied die goede Engelse (en zelfs Nederlandse) teksten kunnen schrijven, zowel technisch als commercieel. Kortom mensen die weten waarover ze schrijven.

Uit dat oogpunt ben ik enige tijd geleden, samen met een zakenpartner in Engeland (dus een 'native') deze schrijf- en vertaalservice gaan verlenen aan een (nu nog beperkt) aantal vakbroeders in de maritieme industrie. Beiden zijn wij uit de industrie afkomstig en zijn er ook nog dagelijks in werkzaam op management niveau. De combinatie werkt soepel en er wordt tot nu erg enthousiast op ons werk gereageerd. The English translation....

My experience through the years has been that I am frequently disappointed in the quality of Dutch and English texts in our branch. Over the last couple of years I have had an association with an English text magazine for which I have written articles and translated other author’s texts. During this time it has been my experience that there is a real need for people with a technical background from our industry who can write a proper English (or Dutch, for that matter) text, both technical and commercial. In brief: people who know and understand what they are writing about.

With that aim in mind I started a writing and translation service a while ago, together with an English business partner. We provide our services to a (at this moment still limited) number of industry/branch brothers in the maritime industry. Both of us have a background in the maritime industry at management level. The combination has proved to be successful and we have had some enthusiastic reactions to our work to date.

The WordPerfectText.com process

We at WordPerfectText.com realise the importance of keeping things straightforward and so the procedure is simple, efficient and as quick as is possible.

Our client supplies us with their English translation and the Dutch original; this is to minimise the possibilities of ambiguities. We will conduct the work and supply the client with a “proof” for his or her comment. Once the proof is returned, the comments – if any – are integrated into the document and the document is released to the client; it is as easy and simple as that. We are committed to turning the document around in the shortest time possible and pride ourselves on the results in terms of both delivery times and accuracy achieved to date.

Should the requirement be to produce a complete translation there will, of course, only be the Dutch text to work from and this is generally much easier and thus quicker to produce.

For a completely new document without any texts we have previously conducted interviews with relevant parties, and subject to which one of us conducted the interview, produced first in Dutch and then translated into English. Or more recently we produced in English and translated into Dutch for outside sources requiring documents in Dutch for a client in The Netherlands. In short we have the ability to produce a document where none exists already

Tom Oomkens and Andy Rudgley first met several years ago when they were colleagues on a prize winning Superyacht conversion and refit. They have been firm friends ever since sharing a passion of all things maritime, both old and new. The friendship is borne primarily out of mutual respect for each other’s abilities and histories.

Tom, the Dutchman, is a naval architect who has spent his years working in the ship building industry in Holland. Tom is well known in the Dutch ship building circles not only for his many successful projects but also for his contribution to various committees and his writings, all of which are aimed at advancing the Dutch shipping industry.

Andy, is the English half of the partnership and has worked in every field of ship building, conversion and refitting. These have ranged from military vessels through cargo and work vessels to Superyachts in various management capacities, and it must be said, in various parts of the world. Both partners have written many articles on and about the ship building industry for magazines, technical bodies and various other parties.

When researching for articles they have on many occasions encountered publications - often representing large reputable organisations - which were poorly written or translated. Given their backgrounds in the maritime world and the understandings of the rich history there, they decided to combine forces to be able to help companies maximise their impact through written texts of all types.
